Bride given away

In American marriages, it is tradition for the bride to be given away to the groom by the bride's father. Why do you think this is done?

  3. i think this is done because the father is showing his son in law the most respect and honoring him that he has been chossen to marry his daughter.........

  4. Make the future husband to take care of the wife like if it was his father taking care of her.

  8. It comes from an ancient practice where the bride was considered property. When the bride's father "gave her away" hew was giving away his property to the husband.
